Autumn is here. The trees are changing colour. The days are once again shorter and darker. So we CampusSport sports tutors present to you an opportunity to lift your mood by getting together for a walking tour. Walking has so many health benefits! Welcome to a free 4-part series of cultural exercise walks. Every Saturday at 13:00 for the first four weekends in October (2nd Oct -23rd Oct) we will walk a new route. You do not have to attend all walks to take part. No need to enroll in advance and you don’t have to pay the sports fee in order to participate, all students and staff members of the universities in Turku are welcome to join. These walks will especially benefit new students who are unfamiliar with Turku area and individuals who want to know more about CampusSport. The first ten participants each week will receive a special CampusSport prize!
Saturday 2nd October 1pm: Turku Returns to the map (starting from Aurakatu 10) Turku Returns to the Map tour is 8.4km long. Along the way you will learn how the people of Turku colonised the bottom of a lake, the tops of cliffs, steep riverbanks and the flat fields of their town. Most parts of the town that you will see have been rebuilt countless times. En route you will hear about misfortune and strokes of luck, the demolition and preservation of the old, as well as the changing of plans in quite a different direction from what had been originally intended.
Saturday 9th October 1pm: Romantic Turku (starting from Piispankatu 10) The Romantic Turku tour is a journey through the love stories of Turku people. Where and when is it good to kiss, and how was courting done in the different decades of the 20th century? This route is 6,2km long.
Saturday 16th October 1pm: ArchitecTOUR (starting from Aurakatu 10) Turku is an old cultural city with a great deal of things to offer: history, architecture, interesting buildings, outdoor sculptures, trees, parks, gardens, churches and chapels, stories and individual destinies. In this walk we will take route 1, which is 2,3km long.
Saturday 23rd October 1pm: Stepping it up (starting from Turku Cathedral) There are plenty of steps to climb in Turku. Adding steps to your route gives you a chance to raise your fitness levels almost without noticing – each step you climb corresponds to ten steps on level ground! This map features three routes in the centre of Turku with lots of steps to climb, and offers and intriguing way to delve into the history of steps. We will be using route A, which is 2km long.

The sports tutors will have a CampusSport sign with them so that you’ll be able to recognize them. During the tours we will take the current corona situation into consideration and take care of the safety distances. If it rains a lot, the event will be cancelled. Tours will be held only in English.
