Skateboarding evening 18 Sep 2025
CampusSport oganises a skateboarding evening on Thursday 18 September 2025. The evening will begin with a try out at 5 pm and continue with competitions at 7 pm. You do not need to pay the CampusSport sports fee in order to participate but you need to be an enrolled student or a staff member in one of the universitites in Turku. You can participate in both the try out and the competition or just one of the events. Note that the events have different enrolment practices and separate participation fees. CampusSport does not insure participants, so everyone is in charge of their own insurance coverage.
Skateboarding try out
A skateboarding try out will be held on 18 Sep at 5 pm – 7 pm at Hesepark (Alakyläntie 4, Turku). The try out will be instructed by experienced skateboarders Hans Kestilä and Eetu Hakulinen. The focus will be on practicing balance on a skateboard, both while stationary and in motion. Participants will also practice kicking to gain speed as well as build an understanding of the basics of learning skateboarding tricks. The structures of the skate park, such as arches and sloping surfaces, will also be used as part of the trial. No previous skateboarding experience is required.
The try out costs 10 €. Enrol by paying the participation fee in the CampusSport online store. The try out will take place if there are at least 10 participants. The last day to enrol is 14 Sep. In case of heavy rain, the try out session will be canceled and the participation fees will be refunded.
Skateboards can be borrowed from the instructors. There is one board reserved for every two participants, but if fewer than the maximum number of participants enrol to the try out, participants can have a board for their personal use during the try out. Participants must wear clothing that is suitable for exercising as well as flat-soled shoes. The use of a helmet (e.g., a bicycle helmet) is recommended. You can also bring knee, elbow, and wrist pads.
Skateboarding competitions
Skateboarding competitions will be held on 18 Sep at 7 pm at Hesepark (Alakyläntie 4, Turku). The style used in the competitions is jam. Participants skateboard in groups for a certain amount of time (for example 3 minutes in a 3-person jam). The scoring emphasizes overall impression and tricks.
Participation fee is 10 €. Enrol on page Entering on our website’s competition section. The competitions will be held if at least 8 people participate. Last day to enrol is 14 Sep. The participation fee will be paid once the competitions have been confirmed. Participants of the try out can stay and watch the competitions even if they do not participate in them themselves. In case of heavy rain, the competitions will be canceled and the participation fees refunded.
