Member benefit: Turku Swing Society

Turku Swing Society’s dance courses are starting! Those who have paid CampusSport’s sports fee will get discounted prices for the courses.

Turku Swing Society (TSS) is a rock’n’swing dance club whose primary goal is to spread knowledge on swing dances and Argentine tango. We organize dance courses and events throughout the year and we are a society where everyone is welcome!

In our beginners’ courses, you will get to learn basic patterns and techniques and how to build a connection with your partner. You do not need your own partner or any previous dancing experience, since the courses start from the very basics and you only need to know how to count to eight.

Lindy hop (originally called jitterbug) is the first swing dance and the base from which all other rock’n’swing dances have originated. It is an energetic, fun, rhythm-driven and versatile partner dance that is nowadays danced around the world to slow and fast jazz and swing music, mainly in an open hold position.

Lindy hop beginner’s course starting 8.2.:
On Wednesdays at 18.15-19.30
At Aninkaisten koulutalo (Turun Ammatti-instituutti). Aninkaistenkatu 7, Turku.

West coast swing came about in the 40’s on the west coast of the United States. The characteristic smooth, gliding movement is significantly different from the other bouncy rock’n’swing dances. The music is also vastly different from other rock’n’swing dances. West coast swing can very well be danced to, for example, modern R’n’B music. It is a living, constantly developing dance, but most of all it’s very addictive.

West coast swing beginner’s course starting 7.2.:
On Tuesdays at 18.00-19.00
At Luostarivuoren koulu ballroom. Luostarinkatu 13, Turku.

Wool socks or low, non-tracking and sufficiently slippery dance shoes are good footwear for the classes. If you miss the first class, it’s not too late to join the second class!

Discounted prices for CampusSport members:
50 € / season (students, doctoral students)
100 € / season (employed)
15 € / membership fee (added to the season fee once a year)

After paying the course fee, you can participate in all weekly courses of the season! The language of instruction is English if there are English-speaking participants.

The registration opens on 9.1. at 19.00 and closes on 5.2. More information about our courses and our organization can be found on our website and Facebook: (Visit an external site. The link opens in a new tab.) (Visit an external site. The link opens in a new tab.)
